Okey doke, well I don't have a helluva lotta time to do this so, this will be a very brief post.
I did wires.
Wires are everywhere and they are the medium that carries data.
Perfect for a Data sculpture wouldn't ye say?
My characteristics;
- Speed of transfer (but I ditched this, coz it was getting complex, I conveyed time instead)
- Use (Personal, work or Uni)
- Data used (format of data and amount used)
- Receiver (who was on the other end of the transfer of data?)
I basically logged an entire day and my uses of wires throughout it from waking up to passing out.
I've got an Excel spreadsheet that I might upload in a sec that shows this recording of wire-usage.
Here are my pics; (I seriously don't have time to embed each one, sorry)
Flickr really sucks
I spent most of my time actually making the sculpture so I didn't do a lot of research. There wasn't much I needed to find out except what my own data usage was on an average day. Turns out I use most of my daily data on music to alleviate boredom on public transport. I've designed the sculpture the way i have because I wanted to show the "inner workings of a machine", a type of hidden communication or abundance of data that is otherwise obscure from our attention.
Yeah. That's all I got.
